Degas has always been one of my favorite artists. Perhaps it’s because I find his choice of themes to be of interest or maybe it’s because he portrays them so beautifully and intimately. He worked with many mediums (pastels, acrylics, drawings, sculptures, etchings, etc) to show his subjects, but here are a few of his ballerina paintings. You’ll see that some are very crisp and clean, while others the wispy brushstrokes of the Impressionists. All however are focusing on the body and how it moves. And what better group to study than the ladies of the ballet?
