GALLERY SPACE | Ai Weiwei, Sunflower Seed Series

A few years ago, during Art Basel Miami Beach, I came across several rather large piles of sunflower seeds.  Initially intrigued, I had to move closer to get a better look.  The insanely realistic way Ai Weiwei was able to replicate sunflower seeds by hand-crafting porcelain is incredible and stunning.  And it’s not just one seed, but millions.  All individualized with details like markings, small dents or varying shapes.  It’s been one of my favorite contemporary art series since the day I saw it.

I love modern art and adore sunflower seeds, so Weiwei thank you for the series of the seed and showing us that beauty is truly everywhere.
