EXHIBITION | Claude Monet and the Seine

The Seine at Port-Villez, Monet

“I have painted the Seine throughout my life, at every hour, at every season. I have never tired of it: for me the Seine is always new.” —Claude Monet

The Impressionist painter, Claude Monet, was beguiled by the Seine.  The river to him was ever-changing, as the same stretch he viewed one morning in the fog was a completely different body of water than what he viewed that evening during sunset.  Monet made his life’s work expressing these differences through sometimes dozens of canvases representing the same views with the only variables being the weather conditions, the seasons, the times of day.
